Hai Medicare and Research Institute (HMRI), Patna, will be upgraded to a multi-specialty tertiary care 200-bed hospital, and will be known as Paras-HMRI Hospital, in collaboration with the Gurgaon-based Paras Health Care.
HMRI managing director Dr A A Hai signed a deal by entering into an operations and management agreement with Paras Health Care Pvt Ltd managing director Dr Dharminder Nagar. The deal aims to make the hospital a 300-bed one with super-specialty treatment of cancer, brain tumours, joint replacement surgery, cardiac surgery, spine surgery and trauma cases. Paras-HMRI Hospital will have the first PET scan equipment in the state for diagnosis of tumours in the brain and their different cancerous stages which would help in super-specialty treatment of the patients, Dr Hai said.
He said that the Paras group, which runs Paras hospital with super-specialty medical facility at Gurgaon, has been given the operations and management of the hospital. Dr Nagar said that the Paras group will invest Rs 100 crore to complete the project in 15 months. The hospital would continue to be run by the trust headed by Dr Hai, he added.
Dr Hai said that the Paras group will install the latest medical equipment and provide necessary infrastructure for upgradation of the hospital in collaboration with an Italian firm. He said that Bihari doctors from abroad, including UK, US and the Gulf countries, are willing to join this hospital once it develops infrastructure for multi-specialty and super-specialty treatment. Dr Nagar said that socio-economic aspects of the patients would be taken into consideration for providing affordable treatment to the patients coming from different walks of life.
Dr Hai said that there is plan to open a medical college as well. The medical college premises will be within five kms from this hospital to fulfill the MCI norms. He said that in Bihar a good number of medical colleges and hospitals are needed for proper health care of a vast population.
