Ultramodern traffic police station in Patna by October

PATNA: The city will have an ultramodern traffic police station by October this year.

The five-storied quake-resistant building is designed to serve as a multi-purpose structure. “We initially planned to just develop the old traffic police station building. In view of its strategic location, however, the government thought bigger and provided funds for a new, modern building in place of the dilapidated one,” Bihar Police Building Construction Corporation CMD Ashok Kumar Gupta told TOI on Thursday.

A sum of Rs 1.12 crore was allocated for the project in 2007 when the construction was proposed. “The allocation was increased to Rs 3.62 crore last year,” he said.

The building’s rooftop is designed to station armed security personnel who will keep an eye on the city. The four corners of the roof will have four small towers for the purpose.

Once constructed, it would become the state’s first police station building to boast of a basement parking lot. It would have the capacity to accommodate 16 vehicles. The police station building will have residential quarters for nine inspectors and five sub-inspectors on its fourth and fifth floors, sources said.

The ground and first floors of the building, spread over 30,000 square feet, will house the traffic police station. The police station will have all the modern facilities, including counselling rooms, visitors’ rooms, ‘May I Help You’ counter and a separate room for visiting officials, the sources said and added the third floor would have barracks with housing facilities for 150 constables.

Gupta and the corporation’s engineers on Thursday displayed before newsmen the materials being used in the construction work to ensure the sturdiness of the building. “We are using cement, sand and stone chips in the ratio of 1:1:2 respectively while this ratio is generally 1:2:4 in construction of buildings,” engineer Yogendra Prasad said and added each column of the building has 16 rods.

The corporation has deployed eight executive engineers and 16 assistant engineers to monitor quality. “We are also doing online monitoring,” Gupta said and added laptops and wireless internet connections have been provided to the engineers for the purpose.
