Bihar going to open schools for drop outs

Patna: In a first of its kind in the country, the Bihar government has decided to set up open schools in all the secondary schools of the state. The schools would provide an opportunity to those secondary students, who could not appear at the annual examinations and discontinued their studies.

Human Resource Department (HRD) Principal Secretary Anjani Kumar Singh said that the government would set up the Bihar Board of Open Schooling and Examination Board soon to devise the modalities for setting up study centres in the secondary schools. The board would be the first of its kind in the state, he added.

The Board would distribute study materials and conduct examinations upto plus 2. The Board would have its own syllabus. The study centres of the board would be set up in all the 3000 secondary schools of the state, the Principal Secretary said.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has already approved the proposal of the HRD for setting up the Bihar Board of Open Schooling and Examination, the Principal Secretary added.

He said that the government has also okay the proposal for setting up three directorates in the HRD. While one directorate would look into proper implementation of all types of scholarship schemes, another would look into the affairs of the hotels and other schools. The third directorate would look after the vocational courses running in different schools.
