The initiative of Indian Express in rehab of flood hit village

Saharsa district magistrate R Laxmanan on Saturday laid the foundation stone for a rain shelter-cum-school building being built by The Indian Express Flood Relief Fund.

The two-storey building, likely to be completed by the end of this year, is designed to house at least 750 people in a flood. A large part of Lagma village was submerged in the devastating Kosi floods of 2008.

The building, to be known as Express Block, will be part of the Navkumar Higher Secondary school, in which over 500 students are enrolled. School Principal Nripesh C Jha said, “With the present school building in poor shape, the new building being constructed by The Express Group will serve the cause of both education and humanity at large.”

The Express Group’s project in-charge, Swadesh Talwar, said, “Our work, rather than words, will speak. We hope we will be able to contruct a model school building in Bihar.”
