First woman CJ of Patna HC sworn in

PATNA: Governor Debanand Konwar on Monday administered oath to the new Patna High Court (HC) Chief Justice (CJ) Rekha Manharlal Doshit who joined here from Gujarat HC. She is first woman CJ of Patna HC.

Chief minister Nitish Kumar, deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi and Speaker Uday Narayan Chaudhary were present at the oath taking ceremony attended by present and several former judges of the HC. Nitish and Modi were sitting together during the swearing-in ceremony. Some senior officials of the government were also present on the occasion.

Having joined the bar in Gujarat in April, 1977, she was elevated as additional judge of Gujarat HC in 1995. She because permanent judge of Gujarat HC in June, 1997. Doshit is a science graduate from Bombay University and she did her Ll.B. from Shahi Law College, Ahmedabad. She has expertize in constitutional, service, civil, taxation and criminal laws.

The post of CJ of Patna HC fell vacant following transfer of CJ Dipak Mishra from Patna HC to Delhi HC more than a month back.
